What Will Students Learn?

  • Shelter medicine philosophy
  • Practical treatments in a high volume, limited resource shelter setting
  • How to systemize treatments for maximum efficiency
  • Triaging critically ill and injured patients
  • In-house soft tissue and emergency surgery
  • Treating common illnesses and injuries on a shoestring budget
  • Managing infectious disease, including parvovirus, distemper, ringworm, calici, FeLV and other major illnesses
  • Length of course: three days

Who Should Attend?

This apprenticeship opportunity is for shelter veterinarians who are interested in all of the above to maximize lifesaving through increased live-release rate or increasing intake (if rescue-based).

How long is this class?

This apprenticeship is three days, plus travel, and hosted in Austin, Texas.

This course is approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
