COVID-19 has the animal welfare movement working in collaboration like never before. National groups, veterinarians, shelters, field officers, and rescues across the nation are working together to bring solutions to the current and impending struggles facing animal shelters amid this global pandemic.

But, how has COVID-19 affected shelters and rescues? How are intake, outcomes, and transfer operations functioning? Has your foster program grown? Are you hitting roadblocks? Are your plans changing rapidly?

The American Pets Alive! COVID-19 Animal Shelter Preparedness Guide offers a framework to ensure that no shelter pet lives are lost and that shelters are proactive in preparation throughout the mutant COVID-19 outbreak. The health and safety of our pets and the community is a top priority for animal shelters. We want to continue to update this guide to help shelters and rescues, but we need your input.
